“Mercury in Retrograde” Paula Froelich’s debut novel

“Mercury in Retrograde” Paula Froelich’s debut novel

2nd of June, 2009, marked the release ofPaula Froelich’s first novel, “Mercury in Retrograde” Page Six editor’s debut novel tells the tale of three New-York or Yorky women, who have very contrasting backgrounds and social status but share a common address on Sullivan Street in Manhattan, which apparently is also Paula’s actual place of residence.

About jotting down her first complete novel she says, “I loved writing the book! Real life is always more fun/nuts than anything you could actually imagine. As for whether I preferred it…well, I’m not looking to get fired. At Page Six, you rarely get to write more than five paragraphs, much less a full page.” Froelich further adds that the actual inspiration for the book came from her job itself, “After 9 years at Page Six, I have seen and experienced some of the craziest things I never dreamed were possible. Like the Kitty Foil scene at the Met gala where she roller blades through the event causing mass destruction — that actually happened. Just at a wedding,” she says.

In her debut novel, Froelich has used her wit and charm justly. She even refers to a real life incident where she had unerringly tapped into Candace Bushnell’s territory; no wonder some of the tabloids refer to her as the, “convivial social-vault.”

On the HBO Friday Night show with Bill Maher, which was telecast on 5th June, Paula Froelich appeared as one of the round table guests along with journalist Matt Miller and Jeremy Scahill.
